  3. This is a prime example of why politics and religion should not be mixed. Even the Sanhedrin became corrupt. What despicable behavior. Deri should not be allowed to serve in any office until a probationary period has passed. He just got out of prison, for goodness sake! This public behavior gives Judaism a black eye. I have no trust of Shas or those in the party. This is really embarrassing for Israel, just like the WoW.

  4. Yosef was the only thing keeping them together. Shas will only get 8 or 9 seats in the next election while many Shepherdi wil begin tol go to other parties with less obsessively narrow interests. Yishai seems a decent sort. Don't forget that it was Yosef who forced Deri's return. Getting a "second chance" after criminal behavior doesn't mean you should get a second chance in politics. It is actually hard to think of 2 more nakedly parochial parties in the Western world than Shas and UTJ. They don't even pretend to be looking out for non-Haredi when in positions of power. Become the housing minister or Interior Minister (as Shas as done several times?) Change the rules and criteria for housing credits to cater to Haredi families. Take over the health ministry like UTJ did in 2009? Change the rules so large families get special dental benefits. Hmm… I wonder who that's intended to help. I hope Shas splits into a reasonable and unreasonable faction then we can really see how unanimous they are about military exemptions and the welfare program known as Torah stipends. Smart Haredi must look at their wealthier, gainfully employed brothers in the US and Canada and wonder why their political leadership has so utterly failed them.
