This article is mostly nonsense. It assumes that everyone with a $5,000 income receives benefits. They do not. And they certainly are not all black. Likewise, $111,000 is average anything. I was a teacher, a mechanical designer, had my own business and I don’t believe that my wife and I ever made that much. I don’t think it was quite 40k. And poverty level people even with food stamps never go to the grocery store and get whatever they please, unless they do without most of the month. I live in one of the most depressed areas in the US and I can assure you that some have made a career out of government benefits, but not many. There are few people who are “middle class” and everyone considers “budgeting.” And considering the government is progressively decreasing SNAP benefits the idea that there is a cushiony government ‘cloud’ to fall back on tells me this writer hasn’t a clue.
