And I’ve been greatly inspired by the volunteers in the congregation I served in Toronto around the “Out of the Cold” project that brings together churches and synagogues, and now I believe also mosques, to provide food and shelter for the homeless in the city.
That’s the spirit in which I read the statement by my rabbinic colleagues. It’s a noteworthy contribution that others should wish to emulate to the climate of mutual trust by counteracting toxic recriminations and unwarranted self-righteousness.
The rabbis should be applauded for applying Stendahl’s seminal teaching to current challenges.
Unwarranted self-righteousness is Dow Marmur’s middle name. He doesn’t realize that he is enabling the worst enemies of the Jewish people.
