The Places Obama Will Avoid

When does the 'Unbreakable Bond' become an abusive relationship?

According to a recent News item:

The U.S. Embassy has excluded Ariel University, located in the West Bank [Samaria - ed.], from the invitation list for President Barack Obama’s speech to Israeli students during his visit next week.

According to student union representatives, the embassy contacted the other seven accredited Israeli universities, all of which are located within the pre-1967 lines, but not the sole Israeli university located in the West Bank.

Ariel University Student Union head Shay Shahaf said he hoped the omission was an error that can be corrected rather than a political statement with respect to their location.

He noted that his school became Israel’s eighth accredited university in December and that there still might be confusion over its students’ status.

Shahaf is being polite. Don’t hold your breath for a correction — this is the State Department that can only mumble when asked what the capital of the state of Israel is.

Which brings us to this:

U.S. President Barack Obama has decided not to address the Knesset during his visit to Israel next week. Senior U.S. officials said that, after long deliberations and discussions, the White House decided that the president will address students from universities in Israel at the ICC (Binyaney Ha’uma) in Jerusalem.

That initial snub did not go unnoticed. The Prime Minister’s Office and a number of Knesset members passed messages to the White House saying they would be much happier if the speech took place in the Knesset. But senior U.S. officials have insisted that Obama decided to deliver his messages directly to the Israeli public, especially the younger generation, not just to politicians in the Knesset.

This is beyond weird. Where else but the Knesset, the seat of the government of Israel, would such an address be appropriate? When Netanyahu came to the U.S., he spoke in front of Congress, not at, say, Georgetown University.

But you just have to think like a State Department official and it becomes clear: the Knesset is the seat of Israel’s government, and the Knesset is located in … Jerusalem! So speaking before the Knesset constitutes de facto recognition that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel. That wasn’t hard, was it?

The message sent by these and numerous other incidents is that the U.S. does not recognize Israel as a sovereign state, a state with the power to accredit universities, and to declare that the city which has been the seat of government for the 65 years since its founding is in fact its legitimate capital.

The case of the abused wife with a rich husband who gives her everything she wants except her autonomy is a cliché of fiction, but certainly exists in real life.

  1. The guy just can’t seem to do every single thing exactly right, as you point out a billion times.

  2. Arie's Pragmatic Politics says:

His refusal to speak at the Knesset is just a further acknowledgement of the hatred he has for Israel and another admission that he is trying to delegitimize the Jewish State.

That is a bunch of BS. The United States was the first country in the world to recognize Israel, and today it is almost the only country in the world to have any diplomatic presence in Jerusalem at all! (Last I checked, Italy was the only other.) The fact is that Ariel University is not located within the borders of Medinat Yisrael — according to the government of Medinat Yisrael. Should he invite students from the seven Arab universities in the WB?

  4. Guys this is nonsense – he is avoiding all areas which may embarass him – the Knesset was knocked off the list after Feiglin threatened to walk out of his address unles he released Pollard – Al Aqsa and temple mount was knocked off the list after Palestinians threatened violence – Ramallah seems to be going the same way – this is juts common sense decisions to avoid incidents – what is more important are the places he will visit Iron Dome re-inforce the military alliance – Shrine of the book to re-inforce historical connection to the land – etc etc wake up and get real!

  5. Arie's Pragmatic Politics says:

And the USSR was second. As for diplomatic presence in Jerusalem, it is not for Israel, it it the US representation mainly for the WB. That said, there is a significant difference between Truman and Obama. Had Obama been president in 48, there would have been no recognition, only animosity. And where is Ariel located? THAT is for negotiations to decide, not the whim of an Anti-Jew Anti-American obama.

  6. Arie's Pragmatic Politics says:

He is not going to the Knesset so he won't offend the ottomans, MB, and Abbas. Nothing to do with controversy amongst Israelis. He thinks hes power of speech will act like kool aid for Israel's young as it has for America's. The Pied Piper leading those that succumb off a cliff

  7. Charlie Hall says:

" As for diplomatic presence in Jerusalem, it is not for Israel, it it the US representation mainly for the WB."

It was relocated to West Jerusalem a few years ago. It could have been relocated to Ramallah were it primarily for the WB.

" Had Obama been president in 48, there would have been no recognition, only animosity."

Truman gave only *de facto* recognition and immediately slapped an arms embargo on the new state. The USSR gave *de jure* recognition hours later, and arranged for their stooges in the newly Communist Czechoslovakia to run arms to the new struggling state.

" And where is Ariel located? THAT is for negotiations to decide, not the whim of an Anti-Jew Anti-American obama."

We know where Ariel is located. It is in a region that Medinat Yisrael has never annexed. It is for negotiations to decide who will have sovereignty over it. That is the position of Benjamin Netanyahu and Barack Obama. Stop spreading Motzi Shem Ra.

  8. But Obama hates the Jews and Israel, as he is not a christian, most christians recognize that Jerusalem is Israel's capitol, I guess he has never read that in 2 chronicles 6:6 it is written. "But I have chosen Jerusalem that My Name might be there." G-d bless Israel and its people and may they stand firm against Obama and his deceitfullness. shalom

  9. Why bother wasting time responding to the ravings of Charlie-boy? His head is so far up Obungle's backdoor orifice that lack of oxygen precludes any coherent thoughts.

  10. Cody Flecker says:

Jerusalem is the Capital of Israel and that is where Obama needs to speak.Likewise the Knesset is the governing body and is the only logical place for Obama to address the Israeli nation.

  11. Charlie Hall says:

I know that I've won the argument when my disputants resort to *ad hominem* attacks.

congradulations arie! You have succeded in being even more stupid and bigoted than ever! You are a member of the party of stupid! you make things up to suit your wrong opinions and state them as facts. You're probably mad because he is not stopping at your house to have a beer and take pictures with you!

  16. Edward Lobel says:

arie, more and more garbage still coming out of your mouth!

  17. Edward Lobel says:

sientje, you are still an idiot! Obama loves Jews! He has appointed more than any other U.S. President to high level positions! People who hate Jews do not make such appointments. As for him not being a christian, it just goes to show that you are an intesnse bigot who has not idea what you are saying and look more and more foolish every time you say this!

  18. When will the American people recognize that we have a Zionist Fifth column in this country that puts the interests of a foreign country, Israel, ahead of their own? It will happen, I assure you.

  19. One of the reasons that Obama will not speak to the Knesset is that a number of its members such as the Neanderthal Moshe Feiglin would stage a walk-out or engage in name-calling which would embarrass both Obama and the Israeli government. It would, however, let Americans and the world see the nature of those who support the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinians while sucking up American tax dollars..

  20. Arie's Pragmatic Politics says:

I always know when I engage with a kool aid slurper. They never can respond to the comments – they just stage personal attacks. It's what those on their knee pads for fascists do. Go swallow putz
