3 Episodes from the Book of Esther

“Now in Shushan the capital there was a certain Jew, whose name was Mordechai, the son of Yair (which means he will bring light), the son of Shim’i, the son of Quish, a Binyaminite; who had been exiled from Yerushalayim with the captivity which had been carried away into exile with Yekhonya king of Yehudah, whom Nevukhadnezzar the king of Bavel ahd carried away into exile.” Esther :5

We are preparing to celebrate the festival of Purim next week, following the “Fast of Esther,” and this celebration is even more relevant in light of the current situation that we are living.

Just think of it- back then following the destruction of Yerushalayim and the exile of our Nation in Persia there was a diabilical plan to go from nation to nation and annihilate the Jews.  Today the same plan is coming from the same place, amongst others – Iran.

This orphan, Esther, along with her Uncle Mordechai were willing to take risks in order to defeat the plan and preparations of the king and his top aid, Haman, to go from state to state and murder the Jewish people.

We are taught that in every generation an Amalek wishes to destroy the Jewish Nation, and we are witness to that determination in each generation.  Just look at the situation today with the extreme Islam attacking Jews throughout the world and how the world is continuously accusing Israel and ignoring the real dangers not only to us, the Jewish people, but indeed to the world – not only the Christians and Jews, but anyone who is not involved in the murderous extreme Islam no matter where they are,

The unity of the Jewish people for the “Fast of Esther” teaches us an important – indeed imperative lesson! When we, the Jewish people stand together HaShem is with us and we succeed.  Today again in the dark clouds of hate and the continued efforts to destroy Israel, and the Jewish people it is imperative that all of us no matter what political direction, no matter what the religious observance or lack of , no matter where we live in our Land- WE MUST UNITE AND BE TOGETHER especially now when again from the same region of Persia- Iran- and with the world ignoring their own danger from Iran we must do everything we can to prevent this danger from destroying Israel and our Nation.

It is our united responsibility to join together and to protect our heritage, our eternal homeland and our Nation. Remember the lessons of our history and in each generation Amalek wishes to destroy us and it depends on our unity and determination to prevent this from happening.
