חַד-מַשְׁמָעִי

Due to its importance in politics and in day-to-day life, there are many ways in both English and Hebrew of expressing the idea of making something absolutely clear.

Perhaps the most common such expression in Hebrew is חַד-מַשְׁמָעִי, translating to unequivocal or unambiguous in English.

חד-משמעי means, literally, of one meaning, where חד  is an abbreviated version of אֶחָד meaning one, while משמעי  comes from the word for meaning itself, מַשְׁמָעוּת.

For example:
הַמַּכַּבִּים הֶעֱבִירוּ לַיְּוָנִים מֶסֶר חַד-מַשְׁמָעִי.
The Maccabees communicated (literally, passed) an unequivocal message to the Greeks.
