Once again irresponsible residents caused a security call-out, this time, someone was seriously injured.

Last night, a 25-year-old IDF reservist and Kitat Koninut member (counter-terrorist rapid response team) in Kiryat Arba was seriously injured when his car flipped over. The Kiryat Arba command center identified two suspects climbing over the fence from the direction of Hebron and entering Kiryat Arba.

The injured man was one of those responding to the scene to stop the potential terrorist threat.

It turned out that the two people who climbed over the fence were Kiryat Arba residents returning from the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron, and they wanted to take a short cut.

Now someone is seriously injured as a result.

A few days ago, a significant part of the town of Beitar Illit in Gush Etzion went into lock-down for hours, after a security patrol discovered a hole in the fence.

That apparently turned out to be some kids from Beitar who decided to take a shortcut.

Last month, on Friday night, the Kitat Koninut of Efrat were up all night searching for infiltrators, after security cameras tracked two suspects climbing into Efrat from a perimeter security road.

That turned out to be a couple with their baby who decided to take a shortcut home at around midnight.

In Karnei Shomron, a few months ago, the entire Kitat Koninut was called out after the perimeter security system indicated a possible infiltration. Once again, it was local residents hopping the fence.

When the Kitat Koninut is called out, it’s not just a few neighbors running out of their homes in the middle of the night to stop the terrorists. An entire IDF platoon also gets called out. Local police get called up. Ambulance crews are put on high alert. We’re easily talking about hundreds of people who are pulled out of their personal lives to try and stop the potential terror attack. And no one goes home until the event is over.

People can be stupid and irresponsible. These are their friends and neighbors who are out all night risking life and limb for them, and they don’t even think about the balagan they might cause.

Common sense doesn’t work. Maybe the only deterrent that will stop this irresponsible behavior are heavy fines and the threat of jail time.

Prayers can be said for Netanel David ben Sara Raiza.
