IDC Herzliya Campus A Day on Campus

To mark IDC Herzliya’s 20th anniversary, we spent a day following Prof. Uriel Reichman, IDC’s founder and president, and Jonathan Davis, VP for External Relations, around its delightful campus.

What’s Up with Netanyahu and the Temple Mount?

What is developing behind-the-scenes?  What secret diplomatic activity is occurring? Will there be a new 'holy basin' plan?
Netanyahu checkmated almost everyone with the "leak" that Jews could live in a Palestinian state.

Netanyahu checkmated almost everyone with the "leak" that Jews could live in a Palestinian state.

First, we were informed of a new agreement between the PA and Jordan awarding King Abdullah II a special custodianship for the Temple Mount (based on something from 1924).

In the past, in 2009, we had this:-

The Jordanian government on Sunday summoned Israel’s envoy to Amman for rebuke over the recent tensions at the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.  Ambassador Jacob Rosen was called in to Jordan’s Foreign Ministry…the second time in a week that Jordan has called in an Israeli diplomat regarding the Temple Mount tensions. In its rebuke, Jordan called Israeli activities in East Jerusalem “illegal and illegitimate,” adding that it represented a violation of Israel’s commitments to peace.

Then, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu personally intervenes to assure MK Moshe Feiglin cannot ascend to the Temple Mount.

In the meantime, Israel has no official comment on that agreement.  Odd, since it seems to contradict the 1994 Peace Treaty.

Furthermore, Israel agrees to UNESCO interference in Jerusalem:

Israel has agreed to allow a mission from UNESCO to visit the Old City of Jerusalem next month…Israel announced Tuesday that it also has agreed to take part in a meeting in Paris of experts from the UN’s cultural body next month focused on the Mughrabi Bridge, a wooden walkway that leads to the Temple Mount.

In turn, the Palestinians are to drop, for now, a debate on five resolutions condemning Israel’s occupation of the West Bank.

This is the same UNESCO that

… has accepted the Palestinian Authority as a state, claims Rachel’s Tomb and the Tomb of the Patriarchs [Me'arat Hamachpela, the Patriarch's Cave] are not exclusively Jewish sites and also belong to Christians and Muslims.

which caused Netanyahu to slam:

…world culture organization UNESCO’s decision to characterize the site of Rachel’s Tomb as a Muslim mosque.  “The attempt to separate the nation of Israel from its cultural heritage is absurd,” said the prime minister.

What is going on here?  What is developing behind-the-scenes?  What secret diplomatic activity is happening? Will there be a new “holy basin” plan?

Let’s recall Netanyahu in January 2009 (Arutz Sheva):

Netanyahu: Obama Will Try to Internationalize Jerusalem Sites

Likud chairman MK Binyamin Netanyahu warns incoming US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will try to internationalize holy sites in Jerusalem.

Likud party chairman and Knesset Opposition leader MK Binyamin Netanyahu warned at the Jerusalem Conference Wednesday that the Obama administration and leftist Israeli politicians will try to internationalize holy sites in Jerusalem — and he vowed to fight the move.

Netanyahu told the audience, “Some politicians are trying to blur the importance of the Temple Mount to the Jewish People by referring to it as the ‘Holy Basin.’ We, as Jews, know who built the Temple Mount.”

The term “Holy Basin” refers to the area of the Temple Mount, the Mount of Olives, Mount Zion and a variety of Christian holy sites which the administration of former U.S. President Bill Clinton recommended be administered under a “special regime.”

This raises the issue of who would administer the Temple Mount, since at present the Wakf Islamic Authority controls the site, albeit under Israeli sovereignty. Moreover, the Arab neighborhoods surrounding the Temple Mount, home to tens of thousands of Israeli Arab residents, are also a part of greater Jerusalem, and thereby fall into the same discussion.

So, who now is being, perhaps, lax in the guardianship of united Jerusalem and the Temple Mount?

Two thoughts: First, Abraham is the father of Jews, Christians and Muslims. Second, Rachel does not belong to the Jews per se as Leah was Judah's mother, not Rachel. Rather, Rachel belongs to the Yosephim, Ephraim & Menasseh, most of whom are found in the north and west and in the coastlands, not to the Jews.

How can you say WHO? when the Temple Mount is located in Jerusalem… it is under Israeli supervision and none other… because it is located in the Capital of Israel… Jerusalem… so who says we have to listen to anyone else as to who supervises the Temple Mount… of course… Israel… as it is is… nonsense… who the hell is Jordan to talk? or any one of them for that matter… come on Israel… Jerusalem is the Capital of Israel… and the Temple Mount location therefore is in Israel… Jordan… ha ha ha… what a joke!

  3. Mr. Netanyahu has again proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that he has no spine whatsoever. His actions have been highly illegal including barring a member of the Knesset from the Temple Mount in direct violation of Israeli Basic Law.

Mr. Netanyahu talks a good talk, but when push comes to shove – he runs.

  4. Exactly. Rachel was also the mother of Benjamin and it was to Benjamin, that Jerusalem was given as an inheritance, along with the land around it as described in the Old Testament. Since neither the tribe of Joseph nor Benjamin are "Jews" (not being of the tribe of Judah), then the Holy Land rightfully, in the eyes of Jacob, belongs to the Tribe of Benjamin, which in all likelihood is Christian, though perhaps also Muslim, but definitely not Jewish. Christians, Muslims and Jews are supposed to have the same God, except for the Talmud which places Rabbis above God. So I suppose this is a matter that God is keeping a close eye on. It is only the Talmudic influence that calls for a centralized Temple anyway. Old Testament prophets make it clear that our bodies and minds are our Temples, and we should carry our Temples with us wherever we go, under the protective arc of the Covenant. The Covenant calls for righteous behavior in return for God's protection. Righteous behavior is the only sacrifice that is pleasing to God in our portable Temples. So we'll see what happens.

  6. Robbie Goldstein says:

Your Revisionism of my people's scriptures, history, and ancestry is absolutely appalling. Are you just Jew hating revisionists or simply ignorant? Which is it?

The Christian/European people are the descendants of Esau- the children of Edom- Europe & the West. You are not of the 12 tribes of Israel. Nor are you of Rachel.

Rachel was one of the 4 matriarchs of the Jewish people. She was Leah's sister, the daughters of Laban, and cousins of Jacob. All of which were Jews.

As for the Talmud, which you obviously know nothing about, let me solve the grand mystery for you- The Talmud is a collection of on-going discussions, debates, and comments between Rabbis over hundreds of years concerning things like Halacha- Jewish Law.

And since you obviously do not read, nor understand Hebrew, how would you know what our Neviim (prophets) wrote about? You state that, "Old Testament prophets make it clear that our bodies and minds are our Temples, and we should carry our Temples with us wherever we go, under the protective arc of the Covenant." Please inform us all, exactly, which of the Neviim said this, and precisely where.

You also state that "The Covenant calls for righteous behavior in return for God's protection. Righteous behavior is the only sacrifice that is pleasing to God in our portable Temples. So we'll see what happens. "

HaShem knew that we were not perfect, and we could never be as HE is. The created can never be greater than, or equal to the Creator. He KNEW we would make mistakes and sin. And so, he told us so: (Is 49:14) " But Zion says, The L-rd has forsaken me, and my L-rd has forgotten me. Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb? Yes, even they may forget, but I will not forget you." and Num 15:23) "All that the L-rd commanded you by the hand of Moses from the day that the L-rd gave commandments and onward throughout your generations."

HaShem does not break His word and Promise. The very fact that the Jewish people survive and thrive despite the best attempts to exterminate us by the worst among you, proves that beyond any argument. The fact that we are returning to Israel is also proof- exactly as the the Neviim wrote it, too.

And, I am reminded of another prophecy that sums you, the Edomites and the Yismaelim up:
Ezekiel 36.2: "Thus saith the L-rd GOD: Because the enemy hath said
against you: Aha! even the ancient high places are ours in possession"

What that prophecy means is that because you covet, and attempt to take what belongs to the Jews, and is not yours to take, you and your peoples will be punished by G-D. Your hatred and jealousy of the Jew will be your destruction.

    And remember this: Genesis 12:3
And I will bless them that bless thee, and him that curseth thee will I curse; and in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed.'

So, take your revisionistic Jew hatred and go to hell.

  7. Maribell Caban says:

Robbie Goldstein Who are these two stupid MORONS above???? Suzanne and Brian are IDIOTS!!! Typical christian screwed up RANT! How DARE YOU rewrite OUR JEWISH HISTORY YOU IDIOTS! Our Matriarchs and Patriarchs as christians???? Are you out of your friggin minds? IDIOTS!!! You EDOMITES JERKS know NOTHING about our history. Go to HELL you ignorant IDIOTS! Robbie this RANT is on my wall for all to see. Will be expecting more of our brethren Jews to come and put their two cents to these disgusting freak's comments who DARE to state such GARBAGE!!! LIVID! OY GEVALT!

  8. Maribell Caban says:

    Suzanne Broussard You're an IDIOT!

  9. Maribell Caban says:

Brian Somers you're another IDIOT!!! Stay off this wall you antisemetic freaks!

  10. "Civilization will not attain to its perfection until the last stone from the last church falls on the last priest.

  11. that has got to be the most screwed up version I've heard. All descendants of Jacob are Jews. not just the tribe of Judah. Many Jews nowadays are direct descendents of Levi as well, and know it, although most of us don't know which of the tribes we're from… get your facts straight before condemning my people…

  12. Nanette CohenRayman says:

To all the know-it-alls, the revisionist historians, and I use the word, historian, with a sneer, here is what your people did: in 1099 – 1187 CE, the Crusaders conducted a violent conquest of our land in the name of Xtianity. Jews and Moslems were murdered. Jews were taken and sold for slaves and banished from Jerusalem in the name of XTIANITY. The Dome became under XTIANITY “Temple Domini.”.
Rachel daughter of Laban was one of the two wives of her cousin Jacob, the love of his life, and the mother of his sons Joseph and Benjamin. Jacob, aided by his mother, had tricked his blind father, Isaac, into giving him the blessing that intended for Esau, his older brother.
It is also beyond appalling that people who are not Jewish profess to know what Talmud is. Robbie is correct when she states that Talmud starts by connecting the TORAH she’b’al Peh (the ORAL TORAH) with the written Torah. It goes on year by year to comment on, discuss, and opine and explain MISHNAH, never saying that any one interpretation is the “correct” one. Those who study are therefore able to expand their minds and thought processes and I must say is one of the gifts of the Jews..that we are incredible thinkers and imaginers of the world.
It is beyond loathsome and wicked, that those who are NOT Jewish continue to, and at an increasing and alarming rate, try to hijack our TORAH and TALMUD, hijack and distort Judaism and to hijack our very land and places of holiness. I spit on all who think they have this right.

  13. David Conley says:

Bens and Jews are mixed together and are collectively called JEWS and rightly control Jerusalem and Rachel's tomb.

  14. Cody Flecker says:

I can see why people around the world hate Israel, especially after its Prime Minister Netanyahu thinks more about the so called Palestinians then he does about the Jews and Christians who support him and Israel. Now a member of the Knesset is refused entry to the Holiest of Jewish sites in the world. Is everyone in Israel this crazy? Maybe it's time to either tell the Palestinians to get the hell out of Israel, or just give back all of the land to the Palestinians and move to Madagascar, or any other place that will except the craziness of the Israeli People.

  15. Linda Anthony says:

Hi Robbie. Your passion for your nation is very inspiring to see. I know I just stumbled by chance on this site, but may I respectfully clarify some points. I am a Christian woman (America) and I have most of my ancestry from Gr. Britain. I have never found any probability of an Esau connection, although I am sure there is some one some where of course that does. I have always believed that there is a line through Japheth, but not Shem in Europe. Also, nowhere in my Christian experience have I ever been taught in any fashion to covet/hate the Jewish/Israeli people. Christianity in it's inception was committed to the Jew first and also to the Gentile. We were suppose to love and uphold you. What happened, in about the mid 3rd century, all Christians of Jewish descent were pretty well excommunicated. The church absorbed idols of other nations, instead of banning them–just giving them new names. I personally don't have a reason why, probably greed, lust, and a few other evil passions. But to over simplify, it's good vs evil just like now. No one gets to change the past, but there is in no way EVER ANY excuse for the abuse of the Jewish people in our age or any other. Jesus never, ever sanctioned anything of the sort. I have never read anything in my Bible (all 66 books) that sanctioned anything but His love for Israel and also the nations. I sincerely hope that Israel gets to see this in my lifetime. Until then, God bless you and NEVER give up your passion or your Nation.

  16. Robbie Goldstein says:

David Conley , "Bens and Jews" ????? The tribe of Benjamin are Jews. They are the children of Rachel, and one of the largest tribes. Get an accurate, RABBINCAL translation of the Torah and READ IT. Your ignorance is profound.

  17. Robbie Goldstein says:

    Linda Anthony ,

"Also, nowhere in my Christian experience have I ever been taught in any fashion to covet/hate the Jewish/Israeli people."

I am glad to hear this. But you are rare, as most of your people do.

And frankly, I don't think comments like, "I did not know", and "I was just following orders", is going to cut it with "The Gentleman Upstairs" this time around.

  18. Brian Somers says:

@Suzanne Broussard – Benjamin is associated primarily with the Jews though according to Yair Davidiy many are also associated with the ten tribes.

@Robbie Goldstein and @Menucha, you need to spend some more time with the Tanakh and a little less time with the commentaries, which includes the Talmud. Josephus, a Jewish general during the fall of Jerusalem in 70 AD, testified that only 2 tribes (Judah and Benjamin) were in Canaan at that time – the other ten tribes were beyond the Euphrates and were not to be numbered for their multitudes. If you look at what the Neviim have said, you would find that Judah and Ephraim are separate and would not be reunited until the last days, when Ephraim (the ten tribes) would return to seek David our King, YHVH's goodness, and His house.

@Robbie Goldstein, you in particular are a few decades behind the times. Down through the centuries, there have always been those from the nations who have loved the Jews. Since 1967, the number of such who cherish the Jews for themselves has exploded and there are now literally millions of non-Jews whose love for Israel is very great. There are great numbers of us who would gladly join the IDF and fight for Zion, were we allowed to do so. The Rabbis since the time of Yeshua have made a point of obscuring the prophecies that point to him, and Christianity since Constantine has made a point of obscuring the the fact that Yeshua is and was Jewish.

  19. Brian Somers says:

@David Conley "Bens and Jews" good one! Yes they're both collectively known as Jews as are the "Levis"!

  20. Brian Somers says:

Everyone, the time is soon coming when the Yosephim will be revealed for who they are. Specifically, the Yosephim are Ephraim (Great Britain and her Commonwealth) and Manasseh (single great nation). The other tribes are mostly north and west and in the coastlands. Esau is mostly among the Palestinians ("Tents of Edom"). I know Jewish commentators have said Esau is among the Italians and Germans, and they may be partly right.

  21. Brian Somers says:

If we from the nations were allowed to fight in the IDF, the haredim could happily stay in their shuls and study to heart's content!!!

  22. If you read the scripture carefully, the tribe of Benjamin was practically genocided by David and his followers. The Benjamites had to escape from them. David kept only Jonathans' son and it appears that he was crippled on purpose so that he couldn't escape. This was blamed on the nurse. The only way to know that the tribe of Benjamin was practically genocided is to go back and trace the genealogy of the people murdered by David. They were all Benjamites, though it takes a while to figure that out. The only reason they kept Jonathan's son and a few other token Benjamites with them was so that they could make their bogus claim on the city of Jerusalem.

  23. The Levites were assigned to every tribe, not just the tribe of Judah.

  24. Brian says:

@Suzanne Broussard, now your history is incorrect. Benjamin was nearly exterminated by the other 11 tribes during the time of the judges before king Saul was born. David had nothing to do with that. Saul and his sons were killed on mount Gilboa in battle against the Philistines. David did not need to destroy the house of Saul, he was most likely blood brothers with Jonathan. He cared for Jonathan’s children because of his love for their father.

  25. Brian says:

    True
