However, it’s important to keep in mind that most women are a combination of two body types. Now, take your time, grab a cup of coffee and let’s learn a bit more about ourselves. Once we understand, accept and love this physical structure we call our body, better, life begins to take on a whole new perspective.

You will soon understand how dressing in harmony with your inner and outer self is way easier than it sounds, and that, over time, choosing clothes based on your body type will become second nature.

Lise Watier, Canada’s authority on cosmetics, said in a recent interview: “I was sure of myself inside and insecure outside.”

Fortunately, when a makeup artist brought out Ms. Watier’s inner self to the external world, her life changed forever, and for the better. For the very first time she saw in the mirror the face of the woman she truly was, and that vision gave her the confidence to accomplish all of her potentials. Thank you, Ms. Watier, for your inspiring words.

A similar phenomenon happens with our clothing. We may be one person inside yet look totally different on the outside. That’s where the art of Styling comes in.

As you read here last week, no physical item can bring happiness, since happiness is a state of mind that must be built and cultivated on a daily basis. Dressing well is just a fragment of the physical world puzzle, which, when added to many other positive pieces, raises our level of confidence and self-esteem, and will then help us to construct a happier life.

Let’s get practical now and get to know our five new friends. You will benefit immensely by reading about all of them and trying to identify which of the descriptions you consider as your primary and then secondary body shape.

THE LOVELY APPLE

For this shape, the larger proportion of the body is carried around the tummy area, without a defined waistline.

The waistline of the Lovely Apple figure is a bit higher than the other body types. While for the other types the waistline is a bit above the belly button level, the Apple has it closer to the bust line.

Some tips for you: you can embrace waist-less styles or use the help of belts for a more fitted look. V-necks or necklaces with a V or U shape will elongate your upper half and take away attention from your midsection.

THE FASHIONABLE, INVERTED TRIANGLE

Did you know most models are Inverted Triangles?

Yes, they are, and that’s the proof that if wearing the right garments, you will experience a whole new world of harmony.

The main characteristics of this body shape is that the upper body measurement is fuller than the waist and hips.

The main goal of an Inverted Triangle shaped woman is to balance the upper and bottom halves of the body by taking away attention from the top area and bringing it to the bottom.

THE ELEGANT RECTANGLE

Elegance is a natural charm you were born with.

For this body type, there are almost no differences among bust, waist and hip measurements.

The addition of accessories and embellishments to either upper or lower bodice can bring beautiful results, as the addition of fullness to the clothes can create and enhance curves.

THE BEAUTIFUL PEAR

On this body type, the hip measurements are fuller than the upper body.

The best way to find the harmony between your clothes and your body type is to divert attention away from your hipbone and bring it up to the top.

Accessories at the neckline such as large jewelry, embroideries and shoulder pads will do wonders in balancing out your figure.

THE CHARMING HOURGLASS

For the Hourglass shaped woman, shoulder and hipbones have similar measurements, with a well-defined waistline.

Since the upper and lower body measurements are well balanced, the Hourglass mission is to pay attention to which clothes enhance her harmonious form in an elegant way, without being tricked by fashion temptations.
