We have no specific theme this week, just an assortment of great products we have had an opportunity to try over the past few weeks.
* Country Choice Natural (New Century Holding, OU parve and dairy) has a tremendous variety of products – all certified organic. Our office had the opportunity to try the Instant Cocoa Mixes. These incredibly rich and tempting hot chocolates are available in both parve (made with soy milk) and dairy. The Irish Chocolate Mint is exactly as it sounds – a rich chocolaty taste with a hint of mint – not overwhelming in any way. The Chocolate Orange Creme was again rich and creamy with a hint of orange. We also very much enjoyed their line of Wheat Free Cookies in flavors like Chocolate Chip Walnut and Rocky Road as well as my family’s favorite Old Fashioned Oatmeal. These boxes are marked dairy, however; some
flavors are milk free but processed on dairy equipment. Country Choice Natural products can be found in some supermarkets and in all major health food stores.
* Alexia Gourmet Frozen Potatos (Alexia Foods, OK parve and dairy) have revolutionized the frozen potato section of stores throughout the country. With an amazing selection of flavors and colors to choose from, you’ll never go back to ordinary “freedom fries” again. Right before Pesach I brought home three varieties for my kids to try. Oven Fries with olive oil, rosemary and garlic; Hanna Gold sweet potato julienne with sea salt; and Oven Reds with olive oil, sun-dried tomatoes and pesto. To say they were delicious would be an understatement. The finest ingredients and spices created a taste that kept my children coming back for more – as a matter of fact they finished all three flavors within a couple of hours. These great-tasting treats can be found in major supermarkets and in your local kosher grocery.
* San-J Salad Dressings (San-J International, OU parve) have a surprisingly great taste. I say surprisingly because they are made with Tamari soy sauce – not a standard salad dressing ingredient. I had a bottle of the Tamari Sesame sitting in my house for about a week before I used it. I prepared lunch for my husband and children without telling them what the dressing was. They loved it! The slightly nutty flavor of the sesame was a delightful addition to the light tasting soy sauce. Not high in sodium but high in soy protein, it is a wonderful choice for salad lovers. Also available are Tamari Peanut, Tamari Mustard and Tamari Vinaigrette. All of the San-J sauces and dressings can be found in your local supermarkets.
