First, to help overthrow U.S. allies before someone else does so and somehow we will benefit from being on the right side.

Second, to ignore who takes power afterwards because somehow they will be better than their predecessors, somehow we will be more popular with them, and somehow U.S. interests will be preserved.

Landler definitely thought he was making Obama look good. Instead, I think, he was really showing us that the bad thinking and disastrous policy was planned and purposeful.
