What would Eliahu Giladi say? What about the people of Yehudah and Sharon whoi suffered under the "NBational UYnity Government" which was Shamir's handiwork, which he chose over a Right Wing-Religious coalition? That about the p0eople who died under Shamir's inept handling of the intifada? What about Shamir's agreement to talk with the PLO?
wrong wrong wrong
This – "After the assassination of Lord Moyne in 1944, Shamir was arrested…" – is slightly incorrect. He was arrested for the second time in August 1946, in the three-day operation after the King David Hotel explosion and escaped in January 1947.
I used to meet him every Shabbat on his morning walk – such a gentleman. And those were wonderful times when a PM could walk the street with only 2 guards and talk to people and interact like a (semi) ordinary person.
RIP to the last true Jewish zionist leaders a man who was true to his people and the newly founded Zionist ideals. There have been no leaders since that can compare in terms of courage, and passion to the Zionist ideals. I only wish there were more like him- he had what we in America call true grit. G-d help Israel , we need more like Shamir. He will be missed.
RIP Shamir. He will be sorely missed, as there are no present day leaders left that have the absolute courage of Shamir's convictions, as a modern day Zionist. He was undeterred in his beliefs that Israel and Yesha must remain sovereign under the Israeli flag. He was unconcerned with his popularity or in building coalitions, his goal was clear, to ensure the safety and integrity of the Jewish nation. Deborah Lurya
