Secretary Of State’s Wife Donates To Radical Left

Secretary of State John Kerry’s wife, Teresa Heinz Kerry, is a primary donor to the Tides Foundation, one of the country’s biggest financiers of the radical left.

Tides is a controversial clearinghouse that funds groups such as MoveOn.org, ACORN, Media Matters for America, and a litany of anti-war organizations. Tides is also heavily connected to the Occupy movement and funds a controversial environmental organization, the Apollo Alliance, which helped to craft sections of President Obama’s 2009 stimulus legislation.

Kerry, through her personal foundation, has donated more than $5 million to the Tides Foundation. Another prominent Tides donor is billionaire George Soros.

Tides functions as a money channel in which major leftist donors provide large sums that are then redistributed to hundreds of radical groups.

Tides documentation reviewed by this column shows the group provided a total of $4.1 million to Media Matters in the fiscal years of 2004 to 2009. Tides was also a primary funder of the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, and was closely tied to the group implicated in voter fraud. The Tides Center’s board chairman is Wade Rathke, ACORN’s founder and chief organizer.

Tides is also a primary funder of MoveOn.org, the American Civil Liberties Union, Campaign for America’s Future, the Center for American Progress, the Center for Community Change, the socialist-leaning Democracy Now!, the Marxist-founded Free Press and Marxist-oriented Institute for Policy Studies.

Tides has been closely linked to the Occupy movement. The Tides-funded Adbusters magazine is reported to have come up with the Occupy Wall Street idea after Arab Spring protests toppled governments in Egypt, Libya, and Tunisia. The Adbusters website served as a central hub for Occupy’s planning.

The Tides-funded Ruckus Society provided direct-action training to Occupy protesters as well as official training resources, including manuals, to Occupy training groups. Ruckus, which helped spark the 1999 World Trade Organization riots in Seattle, was also listed as a “friend and partner” of the Occupy Days of Action in October.

Leftist Calls White House’s Growing
Police Power ‘Extremely Troubling’

The White House may paint worries over drones in American skies, federal agencies buying up billions of bullets, and local police forces arming themselves with military-style equipment as just “bogeyman” issues of the radical right, but an interview on this reporter’s WABC radio program reveals that even the left is starting to grow worried.

Medea Benjamin, co-founder of Code Pink, a left-wing “peace and social justice movement” known for its colorful marches and protests, told the audience of “Aaron Klein Investigative Radio” that the potential for the Obama administration to abuse its growing domestic police power is “extremely troubling.”

Benjamin, author of Drone Warfare: Killing by Remote Control, was asked if she was concerned that military-style drones now authorized to fly over U.S. skies could be used against American citizens – the same question that prompted U.S. Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) to filibuster in the Senate earlier this month.

“Very much so,” Benjamin replied. “We see a militarization of the U.S. police forces here in the United States, and it’s a very troubling tendency.”

Furthermore, Benjamin said she was upset that liberal Democrats – who might question and fight the federal government’s growing police powers under a Republican administration – “have been very quiet when this is happening under Obama.”

This reporter brought up concerns that the federal Department of Homeland Security and other non-military federal agencies have opened purchase orders for 1.5 billion or more rounds of ammunition over the last year.

“Are we leading up to some sort of military-style control in America?” Benjamin was asked.

“I think the potential is there,” Benjamin replied, “and the fact that 10 years after 9/11 the U.S. is still keeping the American people in the state of fear about terrorism and using that to take billions and billions of our tax dollars to use to set up these kind of facilities and equip our local law-enforcement agencies with military equipment and potentially really be turning us into a society where Big Brother is watching us all the time, I think is extremely troubling.”
