Jerusalem’s Birthday Brings Out City’s Best

Three-quarters of eastern Jerusalem Arabs are at least a little concerned, and more than half are more than a little concerned, that they would lose their ability to write and speak freely if they became citizens of a PLO state rather than remaining under Israeli control.
Keeping-Jerusalem

In conclusion: It was reported last week that Australia will no longer describe eastern Jerusalem as “occupied” territory, according to that country’s attorney general. Very welcome news – harbingers of which KeepJerusalem.org reported here four months ago. In an article about N’vei Yaakov, “Jerusalem’s 90-Year-Old ‘Settlement,'” we stated that the Jewish presence in Judea and Samaria is not illegal, and we quoted Australia’s foreign minister as saying that she knows of no international law that has declared Israeli towns in Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem illegal.

About the Author: Chaim Silberstein is president of Keep Jerusalem-Im Eshkachech and the Jerusalem Capital Development Fund. He was formerly a senior adviser to Israel's minister of tourism. Hillel Fendel, past senior editor at Israel National News/Arutz-7, is a veteran writer on Jerusalem affairs. Both have lived in Jerusalem and now reside in Beit El.
