The Open Secret

Feiglin-Moshe

Simply put, those who made it their business to call on the settlers to stay home and “vote from their armchairs,” those who made it their business to attack and ridicule the faith-based alternative from the pages of the right-wing media, left the ministers no choice but to line up behind the prime minister.

About the Author: Moshe Feiglin is the Deputy Speaker of the Knesset and a member of Israel's Security and Defense Committee. He heads the Manhigut Yehudit ("Jewish Leadership") faction of Israel's governing Likud party. He is the founder of Manhigut Yehudit and Zo Artzeinu and the author of two books: "Where There Are No Men" and "War of Dreams." Feiglin served in the IDF as an officer in Combat Engineering and is a veteran of the Lebanon War. He lives in Ginot Shomron with his family.

I agree with Feiglin's issues in general but what he is saying would only be true in a romantic utopian world where a body politic of an Israeli political party can be voted and changed democratically. This is not America where there are generally 2 parties. If Feiglin had won 40% as he said he could have with rightwing support, the majority of people in the Likud would have simply walked out and formed a new political party. It happens with 1,2 and any number of members. They simply pick up and join another party.Obviously then the "New Likud" would have been more central which means more "left" or "liberal" since in the early 1970's that is exactly what Menachem Begin did.He took the central-right "Liberal" party, his own right wing Herut party and formed Gachal which Arik Sharon made into Likud. As much as I am close to Feiglin's ideas, the cental Likud exerts influence on him just as he does on them. And no further.
