The Jewish Press joins Klal Yisrael in mourning the death of Rabbi Dr. Aharon Lichtenstein, longtime rosh yeshiva of the famed Yeshivat Har Etzion in the Gush Etzion community of Alon Shvut.

Renowned for his great prowess as a Talmudic scholar, teacher, and posek, he studied at Yeshiva Rabbi Chaim Berlin and later at Yeshiva University where he served as a rosh yeshiva for several years. He also held a doctorate from Harvard in English literature and was an acknowledged expert in the field. In 2014 he was awarded the Israel Prize for Torah Literature.

A committed Religious Zionist, he was a sought-after adviser on Zionist affairs around the world. Blessed with an unusually creative and facile mind, he was a faithful exponent of the methodology and teachings of his father-in-law, the great gaon Rav Yoseph Dov Soloveitchik and was considered by many to be the Rav’s successor as the intellectual leader of Modern Orthodoxy.

May his memory be a blessing.
