On Being Prudent

With each day bringing fresh evidence of the reality of the terrorist cloud under which we must now perforce live, prudence dictates that while we go about our lives, we be mindful of the special precautions that are now required. The magnificent performance of Mayor Giuliani and our uniformed services should not blind us to the need for constant vigilance. There are people out there who wish us great harm in order to make a point. While we firmly believe that we give victory to the terrorists if we allow their criminal acts and threats to intimidate us, we must also recognize that there is much we can do to lessen the odds against us.

An old adage is perhaps now more apt than it has ever been in our history: “The price of liberty is eternal vigilance.”
