The Jewish Press joins Klal Yisroel in mourning the passing of Rav Tuvia Goldstein, zt”l, long one of the most senior and respected Torah personalities on the world scene and revered as the Z’kan (dean) HaRoshei Yeshivos in America.

“Rav Tuvia” as he was known to the Torah world, was the rare combination of master rosh yeshiva, profoundly influencing the development of his students at Yeshiva Emek Halacha and the Yeshiva Rabbi Jacob Joseph, and sought after decisor on the most complex Halachic issues. For many years he was a close friend of and collaborator with the Gaon Rav Moshe Feinstein, zt”l, and contributed much to the resolution of many seemingly intractable legal problems.

In his formative years, Rav Tuvia studied with such legendary luminaries as Rav Elchonon Wasserman, zt”l, at Baranovich and Rav Boruch Ber Lebovitz, zt”l, at Kaminetz. His prodigious scholarship, self-effacing demeanor and unfailing courtesy identified him in the public eye with the glorious pre-war Litvishe tradition of a bygone era.

Rav Tuvia served as a rosh yeshiva at the Yeshiva Rabbi Jacob Joseph and established the
Emek Halacha yeshiva and kollel approximately 30 years ago.

Reflecting the esteem in which he was held, thousands attended Rav Tuvia’s funeral in
Brooklyn last Sunday and more than 25,000 were estimated to have attended in Israel.

May his memory be for a blessing.
