The Jewish Press joins Klal Yisrael in mourning the death of the Vishnitzer Rebbe of Monsey, Rabbi Mordechai Hager, at age 96.

A son of the previous Vishnitzer Rebbe, the famed Imre Chaim, he was a renowned Torah scholar who was noted for his many hours of daily study. He was also noted for encouraging his followers to undertake a regimen of regular and diligent Torah study. Rabbi Hager was the leader of thousands of chassidim and, at the time of his death, is believed to have been the oldest chassidic rebbe in the world. He was one of the foremost chassidic personalities of his time and an inspirational leader to his many adherents.
