How do you feel about Jews that returned to Germany?

I frankly don’t understand it. While it is up to each individual to do what he or she feels is right, I feel there is still anti-Semitism in that country even today.  Why would you go looking for it?

Did you ever question why G-d allowed this to occur?

I was never angry with G-d. A frum Jew doesn’t question G-d’s actions.

I understand you have grandkids living in Israel who might eventually join the army. What are your thoughts on that?

I don’t have an opinion on that. It is their decision. My oldest granddaughter just started working for Sherut Leumi (National Service) and my wife, May and I are very proud of her.

Have you ever been to Israel?

Yes, 6 times. I haven’t been there in a while because now it would be too difficult to travel, but I used to go often for the major holidays and to visit my son and his family.

What are your hobbies?

First of all, I go to shul every morning. Then my wife and I go for walks and we spend the rest of our day resting. We are retired.

What gave you the strength to survive the war?

We didn’t think back then we just acted. The driving force was that each soldier felt he must persevere to keep on living.

Any final message for our readers?

Take care of yourself or you won’t be here to take care of others. You’re on your own and you shouldn’t rely on others to take care of you.
