Mayor Richie Rich

I concur with reader Yitzchok Bernstein’s criticism of Mayor Bloomberg over his initial refusal to postpone the New York City Marathon despite the devastation wrought by Hurricane Sandy (Letters, Nov. 9.)

Once again the mayor revealed his elitist essence. Mr. Mayor, there are some of us who had to get down on our hands and knees and dig out from under Sandy. I didn’t have electricity or heat or a toilet. There were downed electrical wires and trees all around. There was looting taking place. Was it normal to even consider diverting city resources to the marathon runners?

Events like the marathon may give Manhattan liberals a thrill but they mean nothing to those of us working-class nobodies who not only had no cake but were dangerously short on the basics.

Mayor Richie Rich simply is incapable of thinking like most of us.

Liberals In The Tank

Re: “Another Dan Rather Moment for CBS News?” (editorial, Nov. 9):

It has long been apparent that The New York Times, CNN, MSNBC, NBC, CBS and other mainstream media outlets are in the tank for most any position or candidate on the left.

Your commentary was spot on regarding the suppression by “60 Minutes” of a video clip that would have documented that President Obama “misspoke” when he claimed to have referred to the Benghazi murders as terrorism during his Rose Garden statement the day after they occurred. Those who work at liberal media outlets are entitled to their opinions. But they should not substitute opinion for fact or be given a free pass when they mislead the public.
