Congressional Maneuvering

The preliminary skirmish in the battle against the Iran nuclear deal appears to have been lost. Enough Senate Democrats have indicated their support for the agreement to block any override attempt of a presidential veto.

It is absolutely essential, though, that an initial Senate vote on a resolution of refusal actually take place. That calls for intense lobbying to forestall any filibuster attempt. Late-announcing reluctant Senate supporters ought be particularly amenable to a plea to at least oppose any such rotten maneuver. Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) has already indicated he would do so.

Earlier this year, the Senate passed S.615: Iran Nuclear Agreement Act of 2015 by a vote of 98 to 1 – the 1 actually wanting an even stronger bill. To obtain their assent, Democrats insisted on inserting the poison pill of requiring two-thirds rejection in both houses of Congress. For them to now scuttle a Senate vote would be a rank betrayal of their previous commitment to a vote.

It’s clear the American people overwhelmingly reject this deal. It’s likely that Congress would too, were legislators not subject to intense partisan pressure from the White House. Rejection by both houses would not only reflect that reality but set the stage for important congressional legislation that might blunt some of the worst consequences of this potentially catastrophic agreement, while providing much greater latitude of action for the next president and Congress.

No Rationalization

Iran’s nuclear program is but one aspect of that country’s threat to our world. No matter what rationalizations anyone can offer for the acceptance of the deal negotiated by the P5+1, they do not in any way represent a solution to this ominous problem that can quite literally define the future of mankind.

It’s apparently too late now, but we should have opted out of the negotiated deal and focused on alliances with other peace-seeking nations, especially those in the Middle East. They have a greater stake in this than Russia and China. And I am sure that nations like Canada and Australia would have been pleased to help.

Dislikes Anti-Nadler Ad

I was appalled by the ad in last week’s issue attacking Congressman Jerrold Nadler (his face is distorted and he is called a traitor) because he supports the Iran agreement.

I am not sure where I stand, but Nadler has been savagely attacked by some Jewish leaders – one of whom even called him a kapo.

Yes, this is a free country, but surely we can maintain some civility. Certainly we should not be threatening a decent man who on the whole has been pro-Israel.

Jews And Democrats

What does it take? Is there a final straw that will convince American Jews that their continued support of Barack Obama and the Democratic Party is a mistake of colossal proportions?

Ironically – and quite tellingly – the much-maligned (by liberal Jews) evangelical Christians are loudly and firmly opposed to the calamitous deal with Iran. And all high-profile Republicans are opposed to it as well.

Full circle to my simple question: What will it take to awaken the liberal Jewish lemmings to the danger that confronts not only Israel but the U.S. as well? How long can this unhealthy and unnatural symbiosis between Jews and Democrats continue its twisted path?

Open Letter To Congressman Nadler

Congressman Nadler,

I’ve just completed reading your 25-page statement on what you continue to call the P5+1 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). It is actually a “deal” which President Obama has steered to an end-run around Congress, and to which the Iranians have not placed their signature and have announced they have no intentions of doing so.
