Both these moves were recommended more than a year and a half ago by Col. (ret.) Moti Yogev, former Gaza Division commander, and for almost two years by Yuval Diskin, director of Israel’s Shin Bet security service.

Anything less than this will fail. In 2006, Israel launched an offensive against Hizbullah in Lebanon but left it intact as a fighting force and did nothing about the supplier and deliverer of its weaponry – Syria.

Because of that, Hizbullah is stronger today than it was in 2006 and has more missiles pointed at Israel than was the case before the Israeli offensive. Failure to remove Hamas from northern Gaza and seal Gaza’s southern border will produce a similar result.
