Otto Warburg was a German Jewish physiologist and medical doctor who investigated metabolism of tumors and the respiration of cells, particularly cancer cells. He won the Nobel Prize in 1931 by demonstrating that cancer develops in cells with a low concentration of oxygen. His work was the precursor of all the progress made against the scourge of cancer.
