Sharon's thugs brutally deported our Jewish brothers and sisters from their homes, ruined countless Jewish lives, burned down synagogues and buildings and hot houses and fields. Are we not allowed to say now that God punished Sharon for his wickedness?

Davar reporter Noach Zevuluny wrapping a tefillin strap on Ariel Sharon's arm at the Kotel shortly after the 1967 Six Day War. This event, and a personal tragedy that befell the Sharon family months later, were a precursor to a lengthy relationship between the Lubavitcher Rebbe and Sharon. I believe this relationship was a long educational project of the Rebbe that ended with mixed results.

Proud as I am of my daughter’s enthusiasm and her proclivity for outreach, I somehow can’t shake a niggling regret that it had to be in Germany. As the daughter of a Hungarian mother who escaped deportation by running with her family from the Nazis and the daughter-in-law of a Dutch Jewish man whose parents were shot by the Nazis and who was liberated from Bergen Belsen at the age of 12, I am one generation closer to the Holocaust than my daughter. And one degree closer to the idea of shunning anything and everything German.

Plainly, the Post was not interested in simply telling the story of a horrific murder, which was, after all, the subject at hand. Indeed, the overall tone of the coverage suggested Stark was the victim not of assassins but of some form of rough justice.

Several months ago the U.S. reluctantly acceded to the request of President Hamid Karzai and turned over custody of the detainees to Afghan authorities but with a warning that if they were subsequently released – especially those with American blood on their hands – it could torpedo negotiations for a long term security agreement with the U.S.

Despite our dismay over much of the rhetoric that abounded during Bill de Blasio’s inauguration ceremony as New York City’s new mayor last week, we nevertheless stand by our endorsement in the November 5 election.

At the end of the harvest, winter begins. The earth becomes cold and hard, nights are long, and the sun seems far away in the southern sky. The sap ceases to flow in the trees. But in this season of temporary "death" Hashem sends down harbingers of coming life in the form of tal u'matar livrachah - dew and rain for a blessing - upon the earth.
