The physical world is indeed a machine that runs on cause and effect, but there is an inner gear, the true world of cause and effect, the spiritual one.  That is the inner cog that turns the outer one; the machine’s true engine. Purim is the time for us to eradicate any semblance of the ideology of Amalek which may exist inside us, a time to strengthen our belief that all that takes place in this world – from the amount of money we make to the economic and political turmoil of the various countries and people – is not a function of global economics or political realities, but rather at the will of Hashem Yisborach.

The Mishna teaches us that we need to see all of our victories and successes, including that of restoring kavod Shamayim in this world, as dependant on whether or not we sincerely feel in our hearts that Hashem is directly controlling all that happens on a personal and global level.
