The mitzvah of donating to the Mishkan or to the Beis HaMikdah was different than other mitzvos. As mentioned earlier, Hashem does not need our money; the sole purpose of this mitzvah was to give Klal Yisrael the opportunity to give to Hashem. It is an integral part of this mitzvah that one has the desire and intention to do so. Otherwise, if one’s money somehow ends up in the Mishkan or Beis HaMikdash, he would not have accomplished this mitzvah’s goal.
