  1. In Eastern Europe, matzah baking before Pesach was a way for widows and poor girls to earn some extra money to support their families. Now women aren’t allowed in the matzah kitchens in Israel for modesty reasons. In a country where men are paid to study Torah and kollel stipends are tax-free, women who are the sole income earners for their family should be given preference for these jobs.
