  2. The name 'Palestine' was made up by the Romans after they defeated the Judeans to eliminate Jewish identity to the land. Judeans or Jews as we are known to others have never forgotten our tie to the land. It is historical fact.
The Romans killed a third of the inhabitants, enslaved another third and dispersed the rest. Yet a remnant of the Jewish people remained in the land. From the Romans through the Byzantines and Ottomans the land was nothing more than a wasted province of whatever empire ruled. When the Ottomans crumbled after World War One the victorious European powers divided control of the Mideast amongst themselves. Arabia was broken into different regions by tribal affiliation. After the Saudis wrested hegemony from the Hashemite family, the British set the the Hashemites in a modern arbitrarily delineated country called Jordan. This part of the British Mandate had been known as the area of The Trans-Jordan. They set the current king's great-grandfather, Abdullah, as the monarch to further enhance their influence. There was no nation of Palestine. It was a term handed down through the millennia to describe a vassal territory of whatever empire ruled and collected taxes.
