During a visit to an IDF base in Israel’s south on Wednesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sent a message to US President Barack Obama that Israelis will be the ones to determine what is in their best interest, rather than the American president.

“In the past four years we have dealt with enormous pressure,” Netanyahu said.  “[The international community] demanded we curb our pressure on Iran, that we withdraw to the ’67 lines, that we divide Jerusalem, that we refrain from building in Jerusalem. We rebuffed the pressure.”

The statement came after a report by Bloomberg columnist Jeffry Goldberg on Tuesday that Obama had begun saying that “Israel doesn’t know what its own best interest are”.

For its part, the White House has refused to confirm or deny the statements were made.
