Authorities in Boston are reporting that three individuals have been arrested by the Boston Police Department for allegedly impeding the investigation into the Boston Marathon terrorism bombings.

The latest suspects were all classmates of the sole surviving suspected bomber, Dzokhar Tsarnaev, 19, at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth campus.  The three are accused of removing evidence from Tsarnaev’s college dorm room, in order to prevent authorities from finding and investigating the evidence.  If the three engaged in such activity, they could be charged with obstruction of justice and other felony charges.

Two of the three new suspects were detained on April 20 on immigration charges, the third was taken into custody Wednesday morning, May 1, according to an NBC news report.

Tsarnaev told authorities that he and his brother Tamerlan were Muslims who set the bombs near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on April 15, because they were angry with the United States for harming Muslims in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.  Dzhokhar’s older brother, Tamerlan, died from gun shot and other wounds, following a car chase in which the Tsarnaevs allegedly threw pipes and another bomb at law enforcement officials who were pursuing them, the day before the younger brother was apprehended.
