Two Israeli soldiers were wounded Friday night in a terror attack on Highway 443, near the Jewish community of Beit Horon.

Highway 443 used to be the main traffic artery between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. The soldiers were deployed at a checkpoint on the road, part of which runs through Samaria, at the time of the attack.

One of the soldiers was shot by an Arab terrorist, sustaining wounds to his lower body. The other was badly bruised but not shot.

The attack took place at about the same time southern Israel was under rocket fire from Gaza.

The soldiers had walked over to investigate a suspicious vehicle when an armed Arab within the car suddenly pulled out a gun and opened fire, then fled.

Israeli Police forces fanned out to hunt for the terrorist. Magen David Adom emergency medical personnel evacuated the two soldiers to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem.
