President Shimon Peres attends a ceremony held at Mount Herzl military cemetery in Jerusalem, on Israel's Yom HaZikaron, which commemorates Israel's fallen soldiers and Israeli civilians killed in terror attacks.

Still, he said, “We can either be, or cease to exist. It is our privilege to have been here, and to be here. I doubt if there are other countries in the world who at the top of its agenda are discussions announcing present operational activities in the same cloud of sadness.”

Noting the sadness with which IDF officials approach their duty to notify bereaved families with “the timid knock on the door,” the president added, “Were it not for the courage of your children, your people, your dear brothers and sisters, we would not have a country.”
