Passengers on an Egged bus traveling through eastern Jerusalem came under attack by rock-hurling Arabs Sunday morning.

One person was injured by a rock that was thrown in the attack, which took place of Sultan Suleiman Street. The windshield of the bus was smashed as well. Other passengers were traumatized by the event.

Police launched a search for the attackers.

Such attacks are intended to kill and sometimes have succeeded. In past years there have been several incidents in which rocks were hurled at the windshields of cars as they passed groups of attackers.

Sometimes the vehicles crashed, killing their occupants – and the incident was chalked up to an “accident” rather than the terrorist murder that it was. In other cases the vehicle stopped, with the driver unable to continue, due to the smashed windshield or because of injury; the terrorists then rushed at the car to finish off the hapless victims.

Israeli lawmakers recently passed a bill lengthening the prison sentence for those convicted of hurling stones at moving vehicles.
