Jerusalem Arabs attacked the Light Rail train Monday morning as it passed through the northern Arab neighborhood of Shuafat.

The attackers hurled rocks at the train – as they did a number of times last week — but failed to cause damage.

The Light Rail returned to full service on Monday for the first time after a series of vicious attacks against the Light Rail in Shuafat on August 25 caused heavy damage and terrified passengers.

The cars underwent extensive repairs and repainting before being returned to service.

The day before the start of Operation Protective Edge, the Light Rail was the target of choice for Arab rioters in Shuafat, who completely destroyed the infrastructure for three stops in their neighborhood and the nearby neighborhood of Beit Hanina. They vowed the rail would never be able to run through their area again.

Numerous students and teachers ride the Light Rail in order to travel between their homes and yeshivas in the center of town and northern Jerusalem neighborhoods.
