The suspect in last month’s quadruple murder at Brussels Jewish Museum appeared at an extradition hearing in Versailles, France on Thursday, June 12.

Mehdi Nemmouche opposes extradition unless Belgium pledges it would not turn him over to a third country, such as Israel. An Israeli couple, Emmanuel and Mira Riv, tourists visiting Brussels, were killed in the May 24 museum attack.

The suspect claims that because he is French and he was arrested in France, he should remain in France.

Nemmouche, 29, was carrying a pistol and Kalashnikov and had a piece of paper on which was written the name of the jihadi group the ‘Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant’ (ISIS or ISIL) on it when he was arrested at a bus station in Marseille on May 30.

The French court will decide whether Nemmouche will be extradited by June 26.
