Conservative Rabbi Wolpe to Deliver Invocation to Democrats

By: JTA

Rabbi David Wolpe of Sinai Temple in Los Angeles confirmed that he will deliver the invocation at the Wednesday evening session of the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.

His sermon will focus on the ideals animating the United States, Wolpe said, and will precede speeches by Elizabeth Warren, Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate from Massachusetts, and former President Bill Clinton.

In a bipartisan endorsement of the American rabbinate, the presentation by the Conservative Rabbi Wolpe will balance the invocation given by Orthodox Rabbi Meir Soloveichik at the opening session of the Republican National Convention in Tampa.

Wolpe has been named the most influential rabbi in America this year by Newsweek magazine and one of the 50 most influential Jews in the world by the Jerusalem Post.

He is the author of seven books and widely known as a newspaper columnist and radio and television commentator.

  2. As a Rabbi for Obama, Rabbi Wolpe is facilitating some of the most dangerous and harmful polices towards Israel of any US President.

None is more pressing than Obama's failed policy on Iran.

The NYT reports today that the US will send more warships to the Gulf and that Obama is considering telling Iran that the US will act if Iran goes nuclear.

More maneuvers in the Gulf are too little too late because President Obama’s surrogates have already made it clear to Iran that the already extremely weak policy statement “all options are on the table”, means that they always will be on the table and Iran does not have to worry about an American military strike when it becomes a fully nuclear armed power.

I was glad to read that “The administration is also considering new declarations by President Obama about what might bring about American military action, ”.

This has been the advice from Alan Dershowitz, a major supporter of President Obama.

But preventing a nuclear Iran is not just about Israel or calming.
Israel. A nuclear Iran would forever change the American economy with $20.00 a gallon gas.

Will he make Teheran’s rulers understand that their days in power are numbered if they continue to build a nuclear bomb?

Inexperienced President Barack Obama has made many major mistakes and has very rarely learned from his mistakes.

  3. Rabbi Wolpe's weekly sermons can be downloaded as podcasts through iTunes and though I may not agree with his views his insights are often refreshing
