Minister Danny Danon

Senior Likud official Danny Danon has been dismissed from the cabinet by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu as deputy defense minister, sources said Tuesday night.

The report came as Israel’s security cabinet was meeting in Tel Aviv to determine the next step in Operation Protective Edge.

Danon said he first heard “rumors” of his dismissal via the media early in the morning. By evening, the prime minister said to him simply, “You’re fired,” Danon told an interviewer, adding, ““I won’t accept the weak, leftist spirit of the prime minister.”

The two apparently disagreed strongly over the issue of whether Israel should accept Egypt’s cease fire proposal earlier in the day.
