Vietnam wants to learn from Israel’s experience in mitigating climate change impacts, Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang said at a reception for outgoing Israeli Ambassador in Vietnam Meirav Eilon Shahar in Hanoi on October 31.

Disregarding the fact that Vietnam voted against Israel on the UNESCO resolution that denied the Jewish historic connection to Jerusalem, the president said that Vietnam and Israel should speed up negotiations for the signing of a bilateral trade agreement and open a direct route between the two countries, thus facilitating their economic and tourism cooperation. He also would like to step up the two countries’ affiliation in science and technology, especially hi-tech.

For her part, Ambassador Shahar expressed her hope that the two countries will continue cooperation and mutual support at the regional and international forums, particularly the UN.
