The tombstone of the late New York City Mayor Ed Koch shows his year of birth as 1942 and not 1924, due to what the engraver said was a “human error” that he will correct in the next three weeks.

Koch was so concerned about his tombstone that he worked with a professional for eight months on its design, long before his death

He obviously could not write in what year he would die, and he also left out his year of birth. “I inverted 1924 to 1942, and I’m going to fix it. It was a simple human error,” said Tommy F. Flynn of Flynn Funeral & Cremation Memorial Centers Inc.

Koch was born on Dec. 12, 1924 and died on Feb 1 this year from heart failure at the age of 88.
