One of Israel’s largest slaughterhouses has been caught on film with animal abuse and evidence that some of the slaughtered animals sold to consumers locally and in the United States might not be kosher.

At least three class-action claims were filed against the Zoglowek slaughterhouse Wednesday morning following last night’s expose on Israel’s Kolbotek investigative program.

The Anonymous for Animal Rights’ undercover carried out the investigation and discovered routine abuse of chickens and turkeys at the Zoglowek slaughterhouse, raising  questions regarding the Kashrut status of its products that are approved by the USDA for export and sold in the United States under the OU label.

Chickens were filmed being thrown from a distance onto a conveyor belt leading to the slaughter station. Some of the chickens were filmed stuck in the transport cages grille, and hung in the air by their heads, feet or wings until being pulled by employees and thrown onto the moving belt. The injuries to the chickens might make them non-kosher.

The class-action claims were filed  by customers who claim that the company made them complicit with animal abuse against their will, and that they ate food that might not have been kosher.

The animal rights organizations charged that the company broke the law by leaving the chickens in packed cages for up to 19 hours before slaughtering.
