Facebook Menlo Park, CA, August 11 – Social media giant Facebook decided to accept at face value a report that a satirical website’s pro-Israel humor was worth censoring, while allowing dozens, if not hundreds, of hate-spewing pages to continue spilling their anti-Israel and antisemitic vitriol.

PreOccupied Territory administrators attempted to access the Facebook page today only to find a notice that the page had been “temporarily unpublished” for “controversial humor.”

No notice was given to the site administrators of any impending shutdown, and they were therefore unable to prevent or appeal the action.

The appeals process, if one exists, can only begin after a tedious verification process of the administrators’ identities, meaning that any remedying of the situation will necessarily deprive the fledgling operation of crucial time in its quest to establish and maintain an audience. The outcome of that appeal also remains unknowable at this stage. By contrast, the bigotry-laden pages of pro-Palestinian activists remain untouched.

It is unknown how many of those pages have been reported.

Facebook declined to comment on the incident, referring inquiries to a login page that merely reproduced the notice to the administrators and asked for photo ID with date of birth.
