Schoolchildren beware: Apparently highlighters are now dangerous weapons in the state of Israel.

A boy from Tapuach was arrested overnight when Taibe police driving by noticed him waiting at a bus stop at Tzomet Kessem and looking suspicious to them, because he looked like a “hilltop youth”.

They asked what he was doing at the hitchhiking station (“going home”), and if he was planning on writing “Tag Machir” – Price Tag somewhere (“no”).

They demanded to see the contents of his bag (he complied).

The police found three highlighters in his bag and arrested him, as they decided he was his thinking about writing “Tag Machir” somewhere (with yellow highlighters!).

The boy explained that the highlighters are for highlighting words in his notebook.

The boy was taken to the Taibe police station.

In the morning, the very overworked Jewish civil rights lawyer Itamar Ben-Gvir arrived, threatened the police with a civil lawsuit for false arrest (and hopefully idiocy), and the police released the boy with no charges.
