A prototype of the first-ever GM Israel autonomous vehicle was unveiled Tuesday in Tel Aviv, at a conference of IDF 8200 signals intelligence unit veterans by the General Motors research and development center in Herzliya.

GM went to the conference at the Tel Aviv Fair Grounds to recruit new blood for its new center in Israel. GM Israel maintains the largest R&D center for smart transportation. The center focuses on a myriad of technologies.

All of the car’s systems were developed in Israel, and it comes with advanced sensors and data processors to enable it to travel without a driver.

The car, which is based on the electric Chevrolet Bolt, is being tested on public roads in Israel — but it’s not going to be available here for quite some time.

At present the vehicle is marketed only in the United States, and must be recharged every 380 kilometers ( 236 miles).
