Former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has requested a pardon from President Reuven Rivlin to eliminate his prison sentence of 18 months on charges of accepting bribes.

Tel Aviv District Court Judge David Rozen had sentenced the former prime minister to six years in prison on bribery charges stemming from his conviction in the Jerusalem Holyland real-estate scandal during his tenure as mayor of Jerusalem.

The judge also slapped the Israeli leader with a fine of $290,000 (NIS 1 million) and ordered local authorities to seize another $150,000 in funds he had procured as part of the Holyland bribery case.

After his sentencing in that case, an appeal filed with the Supreme Court successfully reduced that to 18 months in December 2015.

The Office of the President told media Tuesday the former prime minister’s request has been sent for consideration to the Justice Ministry, as are all pardon requests.
