The first-ever Formula 1-style race car event will be held in Jerusalem on Thursday and Friday, to the delight of racing car fans and curiosity seekers and to the sorrow of small business owners who still are angry over traffic disruptions during Barack Obama’s visit earlier this year.

The city has invested more than $4 million to stage the Formula 1 “Peace Road Show,” while will earn income from bleacher seats that are going for up to nearly $200.

Anyone wishing to avoid the expected traffic jam is advised to stay away from Jaffa Gate at the Old City, Emek Refaim, the King David Hotel area and the adjacent streets leading to downtown Jerusalem area between 4 and 6 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday.

Drivers from Israel as well as from Italy and elsewhere will be participating in the Formula 1 race, similar to those held in other major tourist cities in the world

The municipality of Jerusalem said that if the event is a success, it will be become an annual event.
