Daphna Meir, z"l

The woman who fought to protect her children from a blood-thirsty Arab terrorist at her home in Otniel is being laid to rest this morning.

Daphna Meir, 38, knew well the value of life: she worked as a nurse at Soroka Medical Center in Be’er Sheva. When an Arab construction worker from within her own community of Otniel showed up Sunday evening at her doorstep, intent on murder, she fought with everything she had.

Three of her children came running, just in time to see their mother on the ground with the stab wounds from the murderer. The oldest daughter related to security officials that the terrorist had fled when he realized he could not pull out the knife he used to stab her mother over and over, in places on her body, and even on her head.

Meir was mother to four children and two foster children, wife to a husband who is now bereft.

The terrorist succeeded in escaping, but security forces are hunting for him and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed they will find him.

But for now, this moment in time, Daphna Meir is being accompanied by her weeping family and friends, as she leaves the place that she loved, Otniel, in the south Hebron Hills. The funeral began there in the community at 9:30 a.m. Her mutilated body will gently be laid to rest, by those who love her best, in the Jerusalem cemetery in Givat Shaul, at 11 a.m.

May her memory be for a blessing, and may God avenge her blood.

  1. Netanyahu has turned into the most pathetic and weakest prime minister in living memory. He heads a cabinet which will not fight terror in the only language terrorists understand, his negotiating stance is absurd, as is his constant concessions to the PA. This man will never learn. I fear he is in fact leading Israel to suicide.

  2. Dafna Meir Z"l was a nurse at Soroka Hospital and this is her prayer as a nurse (Translation from Hebrew by IsraelNationalNews) :
"May it be Your Will, Creator of the world, He Who manages it with mercy and loving kindness, to grant me the ability to give medications to Your people in need of salvation, and also to the members of other nations who are in the devoted care of your faithful messengers, who continue their holy work day and night, on the Sabbath and holidays, without letup.
"Grant that I understand, remember and realize, that the medications are a gift from You, and their efficacy is Your message to us.
"Grant that I view and feel joy at their beneficial influence of the medications I, mercifully, can give those who are ill.
"Grant me the ability to concentrate when giving out these medicines, to understand the way each acts on disease.
"Grant that I notice in time any of my errors or those of my colleagues when handing out medications, and that I act quickly to correct the errors before the medication enters the body of the patient.
"Grant that I act with modesty, learn and teach others about the successes and failures in giving medication.
"Grant that I give medications to the sick from a position of good health and that I remember to be grateful that I myself do not have to take them.
"Grant that I learn to have empathy, although in good health, with the patient's suffering and help him with all my ability every day and every hour, using the tools that You have given me.
    "Amen."
