Israel’s police will charge renowned gangster Charlie Abutbul with kidnapping a Jerusalem Haredi yeshiva student.

Rabbi Meir Fadida, who is suspected of involvement in the abduction of the yeshiva student, has been released from police custody and is under house

The International Crime Unit is getting set up to hand over to the prosecution Abutbul’s investigation material, with a recommendation to bringing criminal charges against him.

Abutbul will likely be charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault, for which, if convicted, he is likely to spend years behind bars

Last week, the website Kikar HaShabbt reported that police had arrested an additional suspect in the kidnapping and imprisonment of the yeshiva student in Abutbul’s home.

According to police, the suspect was involved in the actual kidnapping, and the police will request the court to extend his detention.

Meanwhile, the detention of Gil Abutbul, Charlie’s son, has been extended until Monday. According to investigators, Gil turned on his father and additional accomplices in the kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment of the yeshiva student.

As you may recall, the story began two weeks ago, with a break-in at the home of Rabbi Meir Fadida, a well know community rabbi in the town of Rechasim, not far from haifa, who also serves as an educator in Shas institutions there.

The sum of 90 thousand shekel (more than $200 thousand) was allegedly stolen from the rabbi’s home in the break-in. Rabbi Fadida, who is well known for his hospitality, had just returned from a mission to Morocco, and fell victim to one of the frequent guests at his home, a Jerusalem yeshiva student who had split from his parents and found shelter in the rabbi’s home. Apparently, this is how the student was able to gather information about the valuables in the Fadida household.

The rabbi’s suspicion was aroused after the yeshiva student had been seen that night, shortly after the robbery, wandering around suspiciously, trying to find a ride to flee from Rechasim.

Police suspect that a Fadida family member with connections to the Abutbul crime family from Netanya asked the latter for help, after which the yeshiva student was abducted and beaten because he apparently refused to return the stolen money his abductors insisted was in his possession. arrest.

  1. 90,000 NIS = somewhat more than $20,000, not $200,000.
