The Foundation for Homefront Security in Israel is promoting a ‘Gatekeeper Project’ system that will automatically — instantly — open public bomb shelters around the Negev. The system works within four seconds of a signal triggered by the IDF’s radar detection of a rocket launch.

Confirmation that the shelter has been opened is sent by transmission to the local municipal command center, foundation officials said.

The foundation is hoping to install the ‘Gatekeeper Project System’ in every shelter throughout the Negev, where 600,000 residents are at risk from Gaza rocket fire.

CJA, the Jewish Federation of Montreal, has already donated funds for the system to manage several shelters in the ‘capital of the south,’ Be’er Sheva. For every Gatekeeper purchased, the Foundation receives matching funds from the local municipalities. Jewish Federations, Israeli philanthropists and the Homefront Command have partnered with the foundation to help purchase more systems for communities around the Negev, officials said.

In Sderot alone, 60 systems are required to equip public safe spaces throughout the city.
