After 2 hours of meetings today in Cairo, Fatah (Palestinian Authority) and Hamas leaders Cairo have agreed that they’ve reached a reconciliation arrangement. PA President Mahmoud Abbas stated that “there are no more difference between us now.”

A reconciliation agreement was actually first signed in May but never implemented due to core differences between the rival parties, among them political appointments such as retaining Salam Fayyad as prime minister, whom Hamas opposes.

Among the issues discussed today included restructuring of the Palestinian security forces, changes to the PLO, and the possibility of elections in May.

Discussions on candidates for prime minister will be held in December.
